Day 8, Lent 2024: Storm-ready
Following Jesus seems self-serving much of the time. We talk to God (pray) when we need help or want to complain. When things don't go our way, we may feel disappointed or short-changed by God.
Yet Jesus promised that those grounded in the scriptures and acting them out would weather storms rather than be shattered into pieces. He never said that we would not experience hard times.
The prophet says, "Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls; yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation." (Habakkuk 3:16-18)
Challenge: Am I willing to praise God and rejoice in his goodness today, regardless of what's around me? What expectations or areas of control do I need to relinquish to do so?
