Lent Day 19: How deep are your roots?

"Have your roots in him. Build yourselves up in him. Grow strong in what you believe, just as you were taught. Be more thankful than ever before." Colossians 2:7

These roots caught my attention along a riverbank. I started thinking about the roots Jesus had when he walked among us: in culture, in religion, and in his relationships.
  • He was part of a nation with strict traditions and rules.
  • He was part of a religion that worshipped the true God.
  • He was part of an extended family with ancestors, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles ... and neighbors. And he made friends.
Rooted in his interior life with God, the teachings of scriptures, and the promises his mother told him about, Jesus told people the Good News about God. He was rooted enough to trust God even when others didn't understand what God told him. And he was rooted enough when times were hard.

Are you rooted in the promises of God? In the experiences of God's faithfulness in the past? Are you rooted in his plans for your future, regardless of what those are?
