Lent Day 17: Not just, "I love you yeah yeah yeah ..."

"I pray that your love will grow more and more. And let it be based on knowledge and understanding. Then you will be able to know what is best. Then you will be pure and without blame for the day that Christ returns. " (Philippians 1:9-10)

Jesus was really good at knowing what was important and how to respond to people. Love was the foundation of his good conscience and good life.

In emulating him, any old love won't do. It's important to build love on good character, on insights that know right from wrong. Love must be built on the knowledge and understanding of what God requires.

In what ways does your love need to grow in understanding and knowledge? Are there things you love that you need to sort out and put away? Bad habits? Poor companions?

What do you need to love more - or less?
