Lent Day 33: The trial, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus
Read today's scriptures (or watch the videos below - Luke 22:66-24. The horrifying injustice and the savage crucifixion of Jesus leaves us aghast even today. The story has been retold for 2000 years. Yet the story - and the resurrection of Jesus - is still new and precious. It is both terrible and wonderful, this high price that God paid to reconcile us to himself.
Ask yourself:
Luke 22:66-23:14
Luke 23:15-43
Luke 23:44-49
Luke 23:50-24:12
Luke 24:13-35
Luke 24:36-53
Ask yourself:
- What do these scriptures say to you today?
- Who would you have been in the crowd around this event? A religious ruler? A part of the mob? A bystander? A fearful disciple? A family member grieving Jesus as mother or brother?
- Have you accepted your inability to come close to God without his own solution for you? Why or why not.
- Jesus is the only person who has risen from the dead and ascended to God. How does this make him stand out among all of humanity?
