Lent 14. Jesus: Bread
This year's Lenten theme is qualities of Jesus that make him our model, as well as our Savior and Redeemer.
--- JESUS IS BREAD ---
I've never heard anyone say they want to be bread. But Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be
thirsty. ...
For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day." John 6:35, 40 NIV

Daily, we are invited to eat Living Bread that nourishes our whole self. In company with Jesus through prayer, reading scriptures, engaging in his community, and doing his work, we find ourselves at peace. Then the eternal life he promised begins. It brings abundance and freedom to be and do good - and eternal life in the ages to come.
We often prefer to eat cakes and cookies - the sweet easy-to-digest desserts of instant gratification, instead of the life-giving Bread of life with Jesus.
*SELF-ASSESSMENT: In what ways are you feasting on the bread that is the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus? Or are you hungry and tired, starving on human rations of good works, religion, or culture?
How could you eat the Living Bread today? Tell God about your hunger and expect him to nourish you as he promised.
