Lent Day 12: Fainting for the presence of the living God

How lovely is your dwelling place,
    Lord Almighty!

My soul yearns, even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.
Psalm 84:1-2   NIV

How easily we get distracted from the most important things. We are in our third home since arriving in Indonesia at the beginning of July.

First, we lived in Jakarta, half-unpacking our suitcases for a month and a half.

Then we moved to Bandung into what we hoped would be a semi-permanent house near language school. Not only could we not attend that language school (due to visa restrictions), but the house proved to have many challenges.

Now we are sorting our things out again next door. We transferred our household last weekend.

At church Sunday, we refreshed our hearts as we worshipped with other believers. Our hearts yearn for God’s presence. How satisfying to focus on Him.

Sometimes we forget that life is not about living day to day. There’s a bigger purpose for each of us: our holy calling is to love God with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Have you found yourself distracted by lesser things? I have. But again and again, God invites us to return to our first love – Him. He puts everything else into perspective.
